Working (out) with Baby

June 4, 2008 · No Comments

It’s hard to get back in shape after baby is born but here’s a fun video that combines a breastfeeding baby with working and working out. Workout advisor, Bob Harper, shows up at a mama’s office where she works on the computer (while taking care of her breastfed 4-month old) to help her figure out how to fit exercise into her life. (”Weighted squats (baby optional)“…) Cool.

It’s sponsored by Jello and Oreos so it’s not quite perfect. Oh well. Maybe they’ll get a CSA sponsor in the future.

Take baby to work?

January 20, 2008 · No Comments

Babies need their mothers. Breastfeeding is easiest when babies and mothers are together. But in Madison lots of mothers need and want to return to paid work just a few weeks after their babies are born. Better maternity leave (like most other industrialized countries have!) would be one way to solve this. Another possible solution would be to let mothers do what they’ve been doing for thousands of years: keep babies close while they work.

For information on how this could really work check out Carla Moquin’s website, Babies in the Workplace, and her blog, Working With Kids. She talks about productivity, getting along with co-workers, colicky babies, and more.
